Simonne Carlton

Senior Engagement and Communications Associate

Simonne Carlton (any pronouns) is the Senior Engagement and Communications Associate at Voices for Progress. In this role, Simonne supports the organization’s engagement and communications programming. Previously, she worked with political candidates, action committees, think tanks, and grassroots organizations at a small digital firm that privileged the expertise of black women and femmes. They have many years of experience applying organizing and digital strategy to movement work, most notably as a Field Organizer on Senator Warren’s campaign for President. Simonne holds an M.A. in Humanities focusing on Philosophy and Political Theory from the University of Chicago and a B.A. in Religious Studies from Grinnell College. They are passionate about centering the stories and experiences of marginalized voices in movement work and have dedicated their scholarship to exploring concepts like freedom, sovereignty, and subjectivity within and outside of the African Diaspora. In their spare time, Simonne likes hanging out with her family, reading, writing, and mixing music.

Most staff are employed by Voices for Progress Education Fund, a project of Tides Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Voices for Progress, a project of Tides Advocacy, a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization, covers the cost of any work performed on its behalf via a cost-sharing agreement.
